JINAN, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's Yanzhou Coal Mining Co. Ltd. has got an official approval to take over Australian coal mining company Felix Resources, according to the company's bulletin on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Friday.     The deal involving 3.3 billion Australian dollars (3 billion U.S. dollars) in a contractual agreement reached by the two companies in August would be the largest of its kind between Chinese and Australian firms.     Yanzhou Coal said in the bulletin that the National Commission of Development and Reform has approved the company's bid to take over 100 percent of the stake in Felix.     The company said that after the takeover of Felix, it would obtain an approved coal reserve of 1.5 billion tons in Australia. Its annual coal output in Australia is expected to exceed 10 million tons, accounting for one third of the company's production in China.     Yanzhou Coal, headquartered in east China's Shandong Province, is listed on stock exchanges in Hong Kong, New York and Shanghai. It owns Austar Coal Mine in Australia, and mines in north China's Shanxi Province and Shandong Province, according to information on the company's website.

CHANGSHA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun has called on publicity departments and media organizations to "vigorously" disseminate the core values of socialist China and inspire the public to achieve the Party's development goals.     Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said during his inspection tour to Hunan Province that China's achievements in the reform and opening up and modernization cause should be well presented, as well as the country's successful experience in dealing with the financial crisis.     Li's five-day tour ended Wednesday, during which he urged publicity departments and news media to "spread China's practices in keeping economic development steady and relatively fast amid the international financial crisis."

BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Diplomats from the European Union (EU) member states on Tuesday spoke highly of China's recent promise on its greenhouse gas emissions reduction.     "We welcome that national objective of China," EU ambassador to China Serge Abou said at a press conference in response to related questions.     China, as the biggest developing nation, set a good example for the international efforts in emissions reduction, he noted.     China announced on Nov. 26 that it would reduce the intensity of its carbon dioxide emissions per GDP unit in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent from the 2005 level.     Swedish Ambassador to China Mikael Lindstrom, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, told Xinhua that he and his country "have a lot of respect for the series of efforts" that china has made.     "The climate change is really a serious global crisis, we cannot fall into a zero-sum game," he said, noting that "we hope it will be win-win, but if we don't do anything it will be lose-lose".     As the hosting nation of the Copenhagen climate change conference, Denmark's diplomat Soren Jacobsen welcomed Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's attendance to the upcoming meeting.     China's announcement of its emissions cut promise "is positive", said Soren Jacobsen, Deputy Head of Mission and Minister Counsellor of the Danish embassy to China.     Jacobsen hoped that an agreement would be reached at Copenhagen.     The diplomats from EU's all member states gathered here at the press conference to mark that the Treaty of Lisbon came into effect on Dec. 1.     As stipulated in the Treaty, the Delegation of the European Commission to China was renamed the Delegation of the European Union to China on Tuesday.

TAIPEI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland's 20 million yuan of donations to ethnic minorities in the typhoon-hit Taiwan have been "all given out", Kao Chin Su-mei, a representative of the ethnic minorities, said here Sunday.     Earlier in August, the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee announced it has raised 20 million yuan (about 95.4 million new Taiwan dollars) for the ethnic minorities in Taiwan after Typhoon Morakot hit the island.     The donation plan was announced when a delegation headed by Kao Chin Su-mei visited Beijing on August 19.     The donation has been distributed to more than 2,153 homeless ethnic minority families (30,000 new Taiwan dollars for each), more than 3,300 primary and junior high school ethnic minority students in hardest-hit areas (5,000 new Taiwan dollars for each), and nearly 14,00 senior high school and junior college ethnic minority students (10,000 new Taiwan dollars for each), according to Gao Chin Su-mei.     All the donation had been distributed to ethnic minority victims of the typhoon, she said.     Currently, about 500,000 people of ethnic minorities live in Taiwan, 80 percent of whom make a living by growing and processing agricultural products.

CAIRO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday met Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa and expressed China's willingness to further its cooperation with the Arab countries by enriching the contents of the China-Arab friendly cooperation. The Chinese premier met the Arab League secretary general at the league's headquarters in Cairo.     "Under the current international political and economic circumstances which are undergoing profound and complicated changes, it is in the interests of both China and the Arab countries to strengthen cooperation which contributes toward world peace, stability and development," the Chinese premier said.     Wen told Musa that China is willing to pool efforts with the Arab League and Arab countries to render the China-Arab Cooperation Forum into a more effective platform which will result in more progress. the "one country, two systems" principle, he said, noting that the key is to realize the most extensive unity under the banner of loving the motherland and loving Macao.     Hu noted that "one country, two systems" is a complete concept, with "one country" closely linked with " two system."     On the one hand, the existing social and economic system and the way of life in Macao must be maintained, and on the other hand, the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of the country must be safeguarded, and meanwhile, the socialist system practice in the main body of the country must be respected, the president noted.     Hu said that it is imperative to safeguard the high degree of autonomy enjoyed by the Macao SAR and fully protect the master status of the Macao compatriots, but it is also imperative to respect the power endowed upon the central government by laws, and to firmly oppose any external forces in their interference in Macao's affairs.     Early this year, the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law of the Macao SAR passed smoothly, a move Hu said fully reflects the strong sense of responsibility of the Government, Legislative Assembly and people of all circles of the Macao SAR to safeguard national security and interests.     "The move also provides a strong guarantee for Macao's long-term stability," said the president.     "As long as the compatriots of Macao unite under the banner of loving the motherland and loving Macao, they will be able to lay a solid political foundation for Macao's long-term prosperity and stability," said Hu.     The president said that it is also imperative to act in strict accordance with the Basic Law of the Macao SAR, to focus on development, to maintain social harmony and stability and to cultivate talents.     The compatriots of Macao are not only master of the Macao SAR but also the country, said Hu.     Since its return to the motherland, Macao has obtained endless power of development and increasingly more opportunities of development from the fast development of the mainland, and shared the dignity and glory of the great motherland on the international arena, said Hu.     The president said that people of all ethnic groups of the country will not forget the important contribution made by the compatriots of Macao to the country's reform and opening-up, socialist modernization drive and the great cause of reunification of the motherland in a peaceful manner.     "We firmly believe that like the great motherland, Macao will enjoy a better tomorrow," said Hu.

BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday again expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, urging the U.S. to respect China's core interests and withdraw related arms sales plan.     "The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan infringe upon China's security interest as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and interfere with China's internal affairs," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu in a statement.     Jiang made the comments in response to a reporter's question on U.S. government approval for Raytheon Company to sell 1.1 billion U.S. dollars of Patriot antimissile system to Taiwan.     "We have raised solemn representations to the U.S. side," said Jiang. "We urge the U.S. to stop arms sales to Taiwan to avoid undermining China-U.S. cooperation."     Jiang said, "We urge the U.S. to clearly recognize the severe consequences of arms sales to Taiwan, reject the cold war mentality, and adhere to the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, especially the principles established in the Joint Communique on Aug. 17, 1982."     The "Aug. 17 communique" stated that the U.S. would not seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan, and intended to gradually reduce arms sales.     "We also persuade the Raytheon Company to stop pushing or participating in arms sales to Taiwan, and refrain from doing anything that harms China's sovereignty and security interest," Jiang said.

BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- China will raise gasoline and diesel prices both by 480 yuan (70.28 U.S. dollars) per tonne from Tuesday, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced on its website Monday.     The benchmark price of gasoline will be 7,100 yuan a tonne and that of diesel 6,360 yuan a tonne, according to the NDRC.     The retail price of gasoline will climb by 0.36 yuan per liter and that of diesel will rise by 0.41 yuan per liter.     The country adopted a new fuel pricing mechanism, which took effect on Jan. 1.     Under the pricing mechanism, the NDRC will consider changing the benchmark retail prices of oil products when the international crude price changes more than four percent over 22 straight work days. The price hike can help relieve domestic refiners' pressure from soaring oil refining cost," said Wang Jing, an analyst on petrochemical sector with Orient Securities Company Limited.     The price hike was aimed to protect oil refiners' interests, ensure market supply and help lead rational consumption to promote energy-saving and emission reduction, the NDRC said.     The NDRC would take active measures to help reduce pressure brought to sectors like transportation, the NDRC said.     International crude oil price might continue to rise within this year as demand would continue to grow amid global economic recovery, Wang said.

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's auto sales and output both exceeded 12 million units in the first 11 months, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced Monday.     The CAAM forecast sales and output for the whole year would both exceed 13 million units.     In November alone, sales reached more than 1.35 million units, according to preliminary statistics. Detailed figures are expected to be released on Tuesday.     The country's largest auto maker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, sold about 2.44 million auto units in the first 11 months, up 54 percent year on year, while Sino-U.S. joint venture company Shanghai GM sold 627,495 units, up 50.5 percent.
