BEIJING, Sept.1 (Xinhua) -- China's securities watchdog on Monday required fund companies to make their information release more transparent and rolled out a draft regulation on brokers, its latest moves to boost the healthy development of the country's stock market.     The information of stock-oriented funds, such as their periodic results, would be regularly publicized on the website of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, according to a standard format in the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), starting from Jan. 1 next year, the CSRC said in a statement on Monday night.     "The move was to further improve the quality of information release by fund companies," said the CSRC.     The new rule was expected to help third-party agencies to appraise and supervise the management of fund companies. Previously it was difficult for a third party to collect and analyze the first-hand information of funds, which was not available to all.     Meanwhile, the CSRC said a new regulation on securities brokers would prohibit them from surpassing their authority by manipulating customers' accounts or providing investment counseling.     The dealers would also be forbidden to "offer or spread false, misleading information", or "tempt customers to make unnecessary deals," said the CSRC. Nor could they make agreements on sharing investment proceeds with customers, or promise gains or compensation for losses.     "It was aimed at protecting the legal interests of fund investors and ward off risks caused by ill regulation of securities dealers," said the CSRC in a separate statement.     The watchdog's actions were part of China's recent efforts to straighten out the stock market order and lay a sound foundation for a long-term development.     The CSRC announced earlier this month it would raise the refinancing threshold for listed companies, saying the dividend they pay to shareholders in the recent three years should be no less than 30 percent of its distributed profits, compared with the previous set line of 20 percent.     Refinancing plans of listed companies had led to share price declines and complaints in China as liquidity concerns loomed over the stock market. Investors also blamed their losses on insider trading and opacity of fund companies.     Last week, a draft amendment to the Criminal Law was submitted to China's top legislature, stating that employees of financial institutes will face criminal prosecution for insider trading. Currently there were no relevant provisions in the Criminal Law.     China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index has shed more than 60 percent from its peak in mid October last year.     In the first half, 364 funds in the country incurred a record loss of 1.08 trillion yuan (about 154 billion U.S. dollars), more than 90 percent coming from stock-oriented or hybrid funds, according to statistics from the TX Investment Consulting Co..

BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Thursday urged the Chinese army to carry forward the courageous spirit it had shown in the earthquake relief work earlier this year to better serve the people.     Hu, also the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee general secretary and Central Military Commission chairman, made the remark here while meeting soldiers and officers who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the disaster relief work.     On Wednesday, China held a ceremony to honor outstanding organizations and individuals for their contributions to the rescue and relief work after a catastrophic earthquake hit the southwestern Sichuan and some neighboring provinces on May 12, leaving more than 87,000 dead or missing.     The People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops and armed police were among the first to provide rescue and relief following the quake. In total, 146,000 troops, armed police, reservists and police were mobilized for the rescue and relief. Chinese President Hu Jintao (1st. BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Monday the free trade agreement signed between China and New Zealand was of importance and profound significance.     Wen told New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark in their talks that the signing of the free trade accord "explored broad prospects for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries". He added the China-New Zealand ties were faced with important new development opportunity.     The two reached consensus to push the China-New Zealand comprehensive, friendly and cooperative relations to a new high.     Wen hailed the vigorous development of China-New Zealand relations in recent years, saying the practical cooperation in every area had made constant breakthroughs, bringing real benefits to the two peoples. CHENGDU, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Saturday night expressed gratitude to foreign countries and people who have offered aid since a major earthquake struck the country.     "On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the State Council and the Central Military Commission, I express heartfelt thanks to the foreign governments and international friends that have contributed to our quake-relief work," Hu said. Chinese President Hu Jintao Saturday night speaks at a meeting on rescue and relief work of the earthquake, expressing gratitudes to foreign countries and people who have offered aid since a major earthquake struck the country.Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting on rescue and relief work after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake ravaged southwestern Sichuan Province Monday afternoon.     Hu also conveyed his greetings to the government officials and people in the disaster-hit areas, the People's Liberation Army (PLA), armed police, militia, reservists, public security staff, medical personnel, journalists and all people making "selfless devotions" to the quake-devastated areas.     More than 200 rescuers from Japan, Russia, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Singapore are in Sichuan to help with the rescue and disaster relief work.     A 61-year-old woman was saved alive Saturday evening by Russian rescuers after being buried for up to 127 hours in the rubble, the first survivor found by foreign rescuers.     The earthquake, the worst in decades, had caused 28,881 deaths nationwide as of 2 p.m. Saturday. Many countries have offered help including making donations and sending rescue teams.     QUAKE RELIEF ATOP GOVERNMENT WORK AGENDA     In the meeting, Hu urged local governments at all levels and relevant central government departments to take quake relief as the most important and pressing issue in their work.     He called for unremitting efforts to search for and rescue the trapped people though more than five days had passed after the disaster.     "We should put people first and saving people's lives is still the top priority of the relief work," he said.     Troops, armed police, and public security personnel should reach villages and search every collapsed buildings to save the people, he said.     Hu also called for all-out efforts to save and cure injured survivors, urging to transfer them to hospitals with better conditions.     Hygiene measures in the quake-hit areas should be beefed up to prevent the spread of diseases, and more medical experts should be sent to these areas to help prevent and control possible epidemics, Hu said.     During the meeting, Hu expressed his concern for the people in the quake-devastated areas, calling for arrangements of supplies of daily necessities to meet people's demands.     Food, clothes, drinking water and temporary shelters must be ensured, he emphasized.     Hu also underscored social stability in quake hit areas, ordering officials to give considerate comfort and condolence to people to ensure a peaceful social environment.     "We must keep highly alert" against aftershocks and avoid further losses, he warned.     Hu also called for tightened monitoring and prevention measures on geological disasters such as landslides and mud-rock flows.     He said early planning is important for reconstruction as the country now faces a challenging task in this regard.     He also ordered early preparations and arrangements to deal with the issues of orphans, seniors and disabled.     The meeting was presided over by Vice Premier Hui Liangyu, who urged implementation of the overall quake-relief strategies of the central government.

TOKYO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Foreign ministers of China, Japan and South Korea agreed here Saturday to strengthen trilateral cooperation for better political, economic and cultural relations.     Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura and South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung Hwan reached the agreement at the second trilateral meeting of foreign ministers from the three countries. GUANGZHOU, June 16 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province was facing the threat of serious flooding as two swollen rivers converged in the Pearl River Delta on Monday, resulting in a flood equivalent to a worst in 50 years.     The runoff in Xijiang River was 46,800 cubic meters per second and in Beijiang River 15,200 cubic meters per second before they met each other in Foshan City, according to the Guangdong provincial headquarters of flood control and drought relief, which said this was far higher than normal.     The danger of serious flooding is made worse by the pull from the moon, which is rising to its most powerful point in the month on Wednesday, posing a threat for river embankments across the delta, experts said.     More rains were forecast in the upstream areas of Xijiang and Beijiang Rivers in next two days. VIENTIANE, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here on Saturday evening, starting his working visit to Laos.     Wen is also scheduled to attend the 3rd Summit of the Great Mekong Subregion countries -- China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar -- to be convened in this Laos capital city on Monday.     According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wen, invited by Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, will meet with Lao President Choummaly Saygnasone and hold talks with his Lao counterpart Bouasone on future bilateral cooperation.     Wen and Bouasone are scheduled to attend the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement in the sectors of economy, technology, coal and e-governance. With a long history of cultural and economic exchanges among the nations, the area has formed peculiar cultural and economic characteristics based on different folk customs and natural landscapes of the six nations sharing the river.     The first GMS Summit was held in Cambodia's Phnom Penh in 2002,and the second in southwest China's Kunming in 2005. 

CHENGDU, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called the past 110 days since the May 12 quake "shocking and touching" when speaking to journalists in southwest China's quake-hit Sichuan Province on Tuesday.     "The past 110 days were days that shocked our minds, and also days that touched our hearts," said Wen. "It's not a long time, but what we did, as witnessed by people all over the world, will go down in history." No major epidemics were reported and industry and agriculture basically resumed.     The nation also demonstrated a kind of great spirit in the quake rescue and relief efforts and gained plenty of precious experiences in coping with emergencies, Wen said. "These will be more everlasting in the quake zone and in our hearts."     Citing soldiers rescuing life around the clock, volunteers taking care of survivors and local people helping each other, Wen expressed his appreciation for all the merits demonstrated on the rescuers and survivors.     Wen said the rebuilding of houses and infrastructures remained the most urgent and difficult task for relief work, citing that it took more than 100 days to fully repair the trunk road linking quake-hit Dujiangyan and Wenchuan and it required no less to keep it open as aftershocks continued to trouble the areas.     According to Wen, in October a nationwide campaign will be launched on donating clothes and quilts to the quake zone to help people there spend winter "safe and sound".     He vowed the central government would continue the relief work as best as it can along with local governments and residents.
