TOKYO, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Japan and China vowed to promote cooperation on the topics of environment protection, technology trade and intellectual property rights (IPR) protection during their second high-level economic dialogue held here on Sunday. "China attaches great importance on saving the energy and protecting the ecology, while Japan has broad experience and advanced technologies on these areas," said Zhang Ping, chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission, "So the two countries can achieve win-win results through close cooperation." They should have huge potential for cooperation to tap into the vast market both inside and outside China," according to Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming.     Chen said China will continue to promote overseas business of SMEs and hoped Japan can help facilitate the process by measures such as easing visa controls.     Chen and his Japanese counterpart, Toshihiro Nikai, minister of economy, trade and industry, also talked on strengthening 3G telecommunications network building, opening up source code software and software and IT service outsourcing, as well as the compulsory certification system for information security products that Chinese government planned to introduce.     They signed a memorandum and established for the first time a working group to protect intellectual property rights (IPR).     "The working group will focus on information sharing of laws and regulations with regards to IPR, as well as the experience in the law enforcement," Chen said.     "Japan is a very advanced country in terms of IPR protection and we believe there are many experiences that China can learn," he added.     He said through efforts in recent years China has established its own IPR protection system. "China, as a developing country, will face a lot of problems in the process of enforcement, but we will not shun such problems."     "China and Japan have a broad range of economic cooperation. We will use the working group mechanism to solve problems in respect of IPR protection," Chen said.     The memorandum signed by Chen and Nikai stipulates that the intellectual property working group meet once a year. Nikai asked that the working group convene its first meeting by the end of the year.     The one-day dialogue, co-chaired by Wang and Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone, was attended by senior officials from the two countries.     The dialogue mechanism, first held in Beijing in December 2007, was jointly launched by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during Wen's trip to Japan in April 2007.

SHANGHAI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC) unveiled its manufacturing and assembling center here Saturday, the latest step towards the goal to manufacture China's homegrown large aircraft.     The Final Assembly Center of the COMAC was based on the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., with a registered capital of two billion yuan (292.7 million U.S. dollars), said COMAC's general manager Jin Zhuanglong. BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China's political advisors brainstormed Wednesday on the country's economic development and offered suggestions about coping with the impact of the global downturn.     They gave their advice as the standing committee of the 11th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee continued its sixth meeting, which started Tuesday.     Li Yining, a renowned economist and one of the members of the standing committee, said restructuring and innovation were pivotal for an economic recovery. Once the problems of fair play and difficulty in financing were solved for private companies, their potential for innovation would emerge.     Other proposals ranged from fostering new growth poles to solving social disputes.     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, was present at the meeting.     He said Tuesday that maintaining steady, relatively fast economic development and safeguarding social stability and harmony were the foremost tasks facing China, and he asked the participants to focus their discussions on these themes and make valuable suggestions.

TOKYO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China's Shanghai has donated 50,000 face masks to Osaka of Japan where a large number of new-flu infections is reported.     The masks arrived at Osaka, Shanghai's "sister city" on Wednesday and will be distributed to local medial facilities in both Osaka city and Osaka prefecture. They are expected to ease the region's shortage of face masks due to the abrupt outbreak of A/H1N1 flu.     Shanghai is the third Chinese city to donate masks to Japan. Earlier, northern city of Tianjin and the southern Guangdong Province also donated masks to their "sister" cities or prefectures in Japan, Kobe city and Hyogo Prefecture respectively.     The number of new-flu infections in Japan came to 364 in 10 prefectures as of Wednesday afternoon, with Wakayama Prefecture joining other western Japan prefectures in reporting an outbreak.     The newly confirmed infection in Wakayama city government is a male company employee in his late 20s. Earlier Wednesday, two children in central Japan's Shizuoka city also were confirmed infected with the flu.

ROME, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Monday, calling for a boost to ties between the two countries.     During the talks, Hu said Chinese-Italian relations have witnessed healthy and stable expansion over the past 39 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations. In 2004, the two countries agreed to establish an all-around strategic partnership, unveiling a new page for Chinese-Italian friendly cooperation, Hu said.     As next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the forging of bilateral diplomatic relations, China is willing to join hands with Italy to lift bilateral ties to a higher level, Hu said. BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese banks have been active in transacting yuan cross-border settlement after the first deal was made Monday.     The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) said Tuesday it had dealt with yuan cross-border settlement totaling 17 million yuan (2.49 million U.S. dollars) in two days.     Many banks in Guangdong Province were active in dealing with yuan cross-border settlement. The Bank of China Guangdong branch transacted yuan cross-border settlement totaling 7.96 million yuan (1.17 million U.S. dollars) Tuesday.     "Guangdong Province has a large economic scale and is highly dependent on foreign trade. Yuan cross-border settlement could help enterprises avert exchange rate risks and reduce costs," said Cao Licong, deputy governor of the BOC Guangdong branch.     "The service is favored by enterprises and will be promising in the future," said Hu Ye, deputy governor of the ICBC Guangdong branch.     China launched its first yuan cross-border settlement Monday.     China's State Council, or Cabinet, announced in April a pilot program to allow exporters and importers in Shanghai, and southern Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Dongguan cities to settle cross-border trade deals in Renminbi (RMB), or yuan.     China last week issued detailed regulations for the pilot program for cross-border trade settled in yuan. There are so many customers that we are running out of stock," said Li Yan, saleswoman of Conghua Puyuan Health Articles Factory in southern China's Guangdong Province, Tuesday.     Business people from across the world gathered at booths selling medicine and health material at the fair. It was even more crowded at booths selling masks and thermometers.     Fuzelong, a Guangzhou-based medical material company, said they have won orders for 3 million masks over the past three days, compared with no more than 500,000 masks during previous fairs.     The traditional Chinese medicine, which doctors say will help protect people from flu virus, also drew attention. Qi Haidong, manager of a Guangzhou-based pharmaceutical company, said the Chinese herbal medicine for treating colds Radix Isatidis sold well.     MAN NABBED FOR SELLING FAKE DRUG     There are other people who want to cash in on people's fear over the killer flu. Chinese border police Tuesday arrested a man for selling fake influenza A/H1N1 medicine to foreign ship crews in Shanghai.     The man, a rural migrant worker from central China's Hunan Province was found to have sold so called "miracle" medicine to foreign crews at the Shanghai port.     If any foreign crew members showed flu symptoms, they should see doctors rather than believe some so-called "miracle" medicine, police said
