Tesla has announced that Robyn Denholm of Australia's Telstra will become its new board chair.
Tesla will spend 16 billion yuan to complete the first phase of the factory and make 250,000 electric vehicles per year, with the ultimate production capacity doubling that number. By the end of this year, the new plant will start producing electric cars for Chinese and overseas consumers.
That led to the rapid expansion of the battery segment that grew 324 percent in 2016 and 78.6 percent in 2017, according to industry data.

Tesla sold 130,000 vehicles in 2020, and the sales figure is forecast to reach 280,000 vehicles in 2021, said the news outlet, citing Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk will participate in the event, and tech guru companies like Alibaba, Tencent and Microsoft will be strategic partners of the conference.
Tencent, the Shenzhen-based gaming giant and owner of social media platform WeChat, is also hiring new staff and investing heavily overseas.
